The rest day in Chiang Mai turned out to be a very busy day at the workshop. Our friend Garrick, driving the white VW "Beetle", booked us into the local specialist for classic cars "jimmy" where about 8 other cars from the rally turned up. Fortunately we spotted a hole in the CV joint. We carry a replacement of this part with us; it broke already on our "London to Cape Town" rally in 2012.
Chiang Mai is the second most important city after Bangkok in Thailand with only about one million inhabitants. The city used to be a very important center for Theravada Buddhism and the streets are lined with beautiful temples. Many westerners hang out here during the European and American winter months.
